Tickets go on sale for Chutzpah! Festival's full lineup of live and online shows, November 4 to 24
Theatre, dance, comedy, and music, as performances return to the Norman and Annette Rothstein Theatre and other JCC venues
Tickets go on sale today for the Chutzpah! Festival, which returns with a dynamic lineup of music, comedy, theatre, and dance from November 4 to 24.
The 21st annual event sees the return of performances to the Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre stage—with full safety protocols in place—as well as digital streams. Acts are on offer from Canada, Israel, the U.S., and the U.K.
A Night at the Opera kicks things off on November 4, with a screening of the Marx Brothers classic film of the same name and an interactive concert by City Opera Vancouver, at the Rothstein.
In the realm of comedy, highlights include Israeli-American stand-up comedian Avi Liberman on November 20; Canadian-born, New York-based stand-up, storyteller, and writer Ophira Eisenberg on November 10; and the return of fest favourite Iris Bahr on November 23. Contemporary-dance standouts include Project inTandem’s Deep END & moving through, it all amounts to something on November 6 and 7; the world premiere of Vancouver star Shay Kuebler’s Radical System Art show Momentum of Isolation; and Ballet BC alumna and Chutzpah resident artist Alexis Fletcher’s light in the rafters on a double bill with fellow resident artist Idan Cohen’s Solo for Orpheus, by his locally based Ne.Sans Opera & Dance, November 16 and 18.
On the theatre front, watch for Lilach Dekel-Avneri and The Pathos-Mathos Company’s The Eichmann Project - Terminal 1 on November 8; The Flame - An Evening of Storytelling on November 17; Surplus Production Unit - A Timed Speed-Read of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire Trial Transcript on November 21 and 22; and UK-based theatre artist Tamara Micner’s audio installation Old Friends, November 8 to 12.
The music program boasts jazz combo Guy Mintus Trio with A Gershwin Playground on November 24; and pianist-accordionist Josh “Socalled” Dolgin with Di Frosh’s Yiddish tunes, November 19.
