Dance diversity as Scotiabank Dance Centre celebrates with Open House September 17
Ukrainian, Bollywood, and K-Pop styles amid the array being showcased
Scotiabank Dance Centre Open House takes place September 17 from 11 am to 5 pm
CLASSES IN bhangra, K-Pop, and Ukrainian Folk Dance meet demonstrations in Susohiki and performances in tap as the Scotiabank Dance Centre swings open its doors this Saturday.
The free, annual Open House event kicks off from 11am to noon with two options: a class in Bollywood jazz by Shiamak Vancouver or a class in Alaia Movement & Dance with Jasjit Rai.
Other highlights include a demonstration from 1 to 2 pm in Dressing Susohiki, with its intricate, long kimonos, by TomoeArts; an introduction to the Franklin Method with Noam Gagnon, director of Beyond Pilates and artistic director of Vision Impure, at the same time; an introductory class on Ukrainian Folk Dance with Dovbush Dancers from the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians at 2 to 3 pm; and an introduction to K-Pop #1 with DAYONE DANCE at the same time.
There will also be sessions on dancer health throughout the later afternoon.
The celebrations wrap with tap-dance virtuoso Danny Nielsen, in an informal performance of excerpts from The New Standard, a new work he's developin with jazz pianist and musician Dan Reynold. Prebook free advance tickets here. s
