Rebellious Spanish dancer Rocío Molina is bringing her masterwork Fallen from Heaven (Caída del Cielo) to the Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre from September 27 to 30.

The long-awaited production, co-presented by DanceHouse, SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs, and Vancouver International Flamenco Festival, is finally being showcased after its April 2020 pandemic cancellation.

Channeling multiple incarnations, Molina reinvents classical flamenco with anarchic punk energy. Fallen from Heaven both embraces and challenges the notions of feminine archetypes. As she explores opposing incarnations of womanhood—from virtuous beauty, to bondage-clad toreador, to bloodied avenging angel—Molina delivers an explosive avant-garde theatrical experience.

Rooted in flamenco’s signature rhythmic percussion and vocals, the live score is punctuated by blasts of post-rock electric bass. Molina is a fearless performer, with peerless technique and a gonzo sense of humour. She demands audiences bear witness to the ferocity and fragility of her radical creation.
