BMO Financial Group presents Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s Day of Music at various venues on June 4 starting at 10 am

THIS SATURDAY (JUNE 4) is shaping up to be a busy one for music lovers: free family-friendly performances start at 10 am and last well into the evening on Day of Music.

No less than seven stages will be filled at four different downtown Vancouver venues: the Orpheum, the ANNEX, the VSO School of Music, and the Port of Vancouver Stage at šxwƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square. Plus, artists and organizations from across the province will be showcased on the digital stage at DayofMusic.ca.

Day of Music launched in 2019 as part of VSO’s centennial celebrations. It proved to be so popular that, despite the pandemic casting clouds over 2020, the event moved to the virtual realm for 2021. This year, it’s back both in-person and online.

A partial list of acts hitting the Orpheum Stage are Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra, Vancouver Folk Ensemble and Dovbush (Ukrainian), MEI Screaming Eagles, and the VSO itself in a morning open rehearsal and an evening performance. At the Orpheum’s Westcoast Energy Hall are Saxophilia Saxophone Quartet, violin player Larisa Lebeda, the duo of erhu player Lan Tung and guitarist Aram Bajakian, and more.

Among those performing at the Annex are VSO School of Music Junior Jazz Combo, BC Chinese Music Association, Mohamed Assani Trio, Azalea Chinese Music Ensemble, VSO School of Music Big Band, and VSO principal cellist Henry Shapard.

Finally, over at the open-air šxwƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square at Vancouver Art Gallery are Krystle Dos Santos, Zimbamoto, MNGWA, and Tonye Aganaba.

It’s all to celebrate the joy and fun of music and the community it creates. More information and further schedule details are at DayofMusic.ca.
