Beyond King Tut

VANCOUVER HAS SEEN immersive projection shows celebrating the art of Picasso and Van Gogh. But the just-announced Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Exhibit puts a new twist on the concept, taking visitors back to one of history’s greatest archaeological discoveries.

Commemorating the 100th anniversary of that Egyptian dig, Beyond King Tut is set to open at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre East in October. The high-tech show is produced by Paquin Entertainment Group (the company behind projection exhibits like Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet), developed in partnership with the National Geographic Society.

Beyond King Tut will time-travel back to the era when the boy pharaoh ruled Egypt, more than 3,000 years ago—and then to the discovery of his tomb and treasures in 1922. Drawing from the archives of the National Geographic Society, the exhibition draws on state-of-the-art projection mapping.

The North American debut of the virtual-reality experience “Tutankhamun: Enter the Tomb” will be presented alongside Beyond King Tut, taking guests through a photorealistic version of King Tut’s tomb and all its treasures, re-creatng what archeologist Howard Carter and his financier Lord Carnarvon might have seen when they first peered inside in 1922. Actor Hugh Bonneville, of Downtown Abbey fame, narrates.

Prospective Beyond King Tut guests can sign up now for tour date announcements and waitlist registration that will give them priority access to tickets ahead of the public on-sale here.
