Emily Carr University of Art + Design's massive Student Art Sale kicks off, November 23 to 25

More than 230 students roll out oil paintings, ink illustrations, photographs, prints, ceramics, sculptures, housewares, and more

Emily Carr University of Art + Design Student Art Sale runs 5 to 9 pm on November 23, noon to 8 pm on November 24, and noon to 6 pm on November 25

 

EMILY CARR UNIVERSITY of Art + Design's legendary Student Art Sale is a chance to score one-of-a-kind pieces from some of Vancouver's finest emerging artists and designers in time for the holiday season.

Marking the 50th anniversary of the annual sale, the large-scale in-person event takes over the Michael O'Brian Exhibition Commons at the campus on East 1st Avenue, featuring a wide range of art forms and design. Think oil paintings, ink illustrations, photographs, prints, ceramics, sculptures, jewellery and other wearable works, housewares, and much more. Prices range from about $20 to over $100.

This year there will be more than 230 participating students .

Seek out Kamila Bashir ceramics, with their unique hexagonal cups and offbeat pastel glazes. Bangladeshi-born interdisciplinary artist Faria Binte Firoz explores globalization, cultural diaspora, and identity through beautifully bold paintings; check out Diverse Feathers, with colourful birds set against scrolling blockprint-like backgrounds. Other highlights include Cherry Hou’s cute, emoji inspired bags and prints; Kai Liu’s expressive oil and landscape studies of familiar Whistler scenes; and Pierce Sinclair’s textural photos, like Thistle and Barbed Wire.
