THINK FIDDLERS, CALLERS, AND contradances, as Festival du Bois unveils its programming for March 8 to 10 in Maillardville—all centred in Coquitlam’s Mackin Park.

In recognition of the 2024 Acadian Congress, it’s shining a big spotlight on Acadian music traditions.

The francophone fest is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a lineup that kicks off March 8 with Podorythmie’s music and dance, followed by a contradance with the Sybaritic String Band and caller Maureen Collier. Admission is free for fest-goers of all ages.

Acts that follow at the Grand Chapiteau (Big Tent) on the event’s Saturday and Sunday include the Acadian and Celtic sounds of New Brunswick’s La Famille LeBlanc; Acadian multi-instrumentalists Vishtèn Connexions, from Prince Edward Island; and BC’s Collage Trad, mixing swing, jazz, a touch of rock. Other names include The North Shore Celtic Ensemble, La Famille Léger, The Métis Jiggers, and Robin Layne & The Rhythm Makers.

At the Children’s Tent, called Petit Chapiteau, look for Will’s Jams, femcee Missy D, Monsieur Andre, storyteller Lyne Chartier, Marieclown, and La Famille Leger.

Add a full array of food, plus on-site activities like the Métis Village Experience and workshops at the Mackin House.
