The Pacifica Quartet returns to Vancouver on April 1 in a presentation by Friends of Chamber Music. Acclaimed by local audiences for its previous performances, this dynamic American string quartet will regale listeners once again with its virtuosity, exuberant performance style, and daring repertoire choices.
The concert opens with Samuel Barber’s String Quartet in B minor, with the famous adagio heard in several movies (The Elephant Man, Platoon, Amélie, and more). Next is Bartók’s intense String Quartet No. 4 in C major, including a snappy pizzicato movement. The quartet finishes with Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 2 in A major, Op. 68, music that includes emotional Jewish themes that would have meant trouble for the composer if they'd been performed in Russia during the Soviet era.
Witness the Pacifica Quartet’s extraordinary polish, passion, and unanimity in concert at the Vancouver Playhouse. Tickets are available through Friends of Chamber Music.
