Music on Main presents Graveyards and Gardens: On Demand from March 18 to 23
AMID THE BRAVE new world of livestream production, it was a standout.
Over just two nights in January, Vancouver dance artist Vanessa Goodman and Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer and sound artist Caroline Shaw joined forces for Graveyards and Gardens. And the buzz hasn’t stopped since for the short-lived show, a Music on Main presentation in partnership with the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival.
But now Music on Main is bringing the mesmerizing meditation on mortality and memory back for those who missed it. Presented in 4K resolution, it’s the kind of work you want to see on the biggest screen in your home, with the loudest speakers.
The big draw is the dreamlike atmosphere it builds with retro speakers, turntables, and tape decks, Goodman vocalizing into a microphone and looping the sounds with Shaw’s samples. Plants, lamps, and orange cords circle the stage as Goodman moves around it.
