The Vancouver Art Gallery presents the virtual Spring Into Art series from March 15 to 19

THE VANCOUVER ART Gallery has gathered an impressive cast of art names to lead its free, daily art-making classes for spring break.

Parents struggling to entertain kids during holiday lockdown can tune each day at 1 pm to everyone from Sonny Assu to Sandeep Johal. The theme is creating stories and identities through Underwater, Underground, Playspace, Outerspace, and Intergalactic worlds.

First up is artist-animator Cindy Mochizuki, Monday, who will teach you about Amabie, a Japanese yōkai, and help families make their own Amabie postcard to send to a friend or family member with a message of luck and good health. Tuesday, Assu gives a virtual studio tour, while on Wednesday, Family Programs coordinator Christina Jones screens Allison Hrabluik’s film The Splits from the exhibition Uncommon Language before leading an exploration of sound and movement.

The week wraps up with Space Comics with Cole Paul on Thursday and then Johal, on Friday, leading an activity in animal collages.

You can find more information and register here. And don't forget that if you need to get out of the house, the gallery is open for prebooked visits--and families will love Uncommon Language and the Sun Xun shows on view now. Read our review here.
