Hélène Grimaud Plays Brahms with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra

Featuring one of the finest pianists in the world, plus an exciting VSO original!

Hélène Grimaud Plays Brahms by Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is a concert not to be missed.

French pianist Hélène Grimaud is one of the finest pianists in the world today. She has been lauded for her passionate performances and her dedication to environmental conservation. Grimaud captures the emotional core of Brahms, joining the VSO to perform the legendary composer’s Piano Concerto No. 1.

“Her two overriding characteristics are independence and drive, and her performances attempt, whenever possible, to shake up conventional pianistic wisdom,” The New Yorker writes. “Brian Levine, the executive director of the Glenn Gould Foundation, sees in Grimaud a resemblance to Gould: ‘She has this willingness to take a piece of music apart and free herself from the general body of practice that has grown up around it.’”

A part of the Assante Masterworks Diamond series, the concert also features VSO’s Marcus Goddard. He will take audiences on a musical journey through an icy seascape with his work Life Emerging: Antarctica, a VSO commission.

VSO principal cellist Henry Shapard performs the solo from Life Emerging: Antartica, originally written for Yo-Yo Ma.

Life Emerging is a VSO original.
