Keithmas, Slow Hand Beer Company launch Keefs, A Keithmas Beer, December 1
Like the Keith Richards-themed Christmas party on December 17, the new brew raises funds for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank
Keithmas and Slow Hand Beer Company host the Keefs launch party on December 1 at 8 pm at the Heatley; Keithmas takes place December 17 at the Rickshaw
CHRISTMAS HAS COME EARLY for local beer lovers: Keithmas and Slow Hand Beer Company have teamed up to launch Keefs, a Keithmas Beer.
Now in its 13th year, Keithmas is the world’s longest running (and quite likely the only) Keith Richards-themed Christmas party. To date, more than $130,000 has been raised for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, with this year’s event similarly supporting the cause.
The new Keefs will be available for sale at the December 17 event—and beforehand, beginning December 1, in limited quantities at select Metro Vancouver liquor stores and via BeerVan home deliveries.
Here’s how the golden opportunity came about, according to Kurtis Sheldan, co-owner of East Van’s Slow Hand Beer Company: “We’d been toying with the idea of making a classic American lager (think Coors Banquet) for some time, so when I saw the Keithmas boys post that iconic pic to their socials of Keef standing at his amp with a bottle of Jack (natch) and a few tins of Coors Banquet sitting atop it, I KNEW we had our chance!” Sheldan says in a release. “We got together at Keithmas HQ, and after a chat over a few pints history was made and Keefs – the now Official Keithmas Beer — came to life! Sourcing ultra-premium malt from Skagit Valley Malting in Washington and hops from the Yakima Valley to craft an American-style lager, we turned quality and balance up to 11. The Keefs label draws heavily from those Coors tins from 1972, and the beer is nice and simple, just the best version of the style ever.”
At the December 1 launch of Keefs, the Heatley will host long time Keithmas performer Elliot C. Way, who will spin a Stones-heavy DJ set and perform some live music.
Tickets for Keithmas XIII are here. A portion of proceeds from every can of Keefs will benefit the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, as will 100 percent of Keithmas ticket sales, merchandise, and raffle-ticket sales.
