Tickets go on sale January 15 at 9 am for Imagine Van Gogh, the immersive exhibition that’s caused a huge buzz in Europe.
Featuring high-tech projections of more than 200 of the Dutch artist’s paintings, the show will open here on March 19 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The exhibit will operate in accordance with current public health guidelines in British Columbia in place at the time of opening.
The show first opened in France, where it amazed audiences with its grand and immersive concept of Total Image, which employs high-definition video technology to transport visitors deep inside the artwork, enabling them to experience all the creative emotions of the artist through his use of brush strokes and colour.
This enlarged scale of Van Gogh’s paintings allows for a detailed look at the artist’s work—from the stars in his night skies to the seeds in his sunflowers.
Each painting appears on multiple floor-to-ceiling video screens, and the exhibit is accompanied by classical music—making it a full sensory experience and bringing Van Gogh’s canvases to life in a vivid, spectacular way.
The show stretches over 25,000 square feet, and will be presented in a contactless experience with limited capacity, timed entries with provincial standard Covid-19 safety protocols in place.
The exhibit was created by French artistic directors Annabelle Mauger and Julien Baron, renowned for their immersive exhibit Cathédrale d’Images in Les Baux-de-Provence, which sets projections and music within the walls of a limestone quarry in Provence.
