NEXT: New Dance in Development offers four emerging choreographers residency at state-of-the-art SFU theatre
DanceHouse, 149 Arts Society, and the National Arts Centre launch project that will livestream works-in-progress December 15
A NEW PROGRAM is giving four emerging artists a theatre residency to create new work.
Called NEXT: New Dance in Development, the project is the result of DanceHouse, 149 Arts Society, and the National Arts Centre joining forces to offer a two-week residency at the Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, a state-of-the-art venue.
The emerging choreographers taking part are Ralph Escamillan, Shion Skye Carter, Zahra Shahab, and All Bodies Dance Project artists romham pádraig gallacher and Lance Lim. They’ll work in the space from November 29 to December 14, with access to technicians and technical gear that they would not normally be able to experiment with in a studio.
The resulting works-in-progress will livestream December 15 at 4 pm. The public can pre-register here to watch.
NEXT gives a boost to the dance community at a time when it’s sorely needed. Funding comes in part from Canadian Heritage’s COVID-19-support measure Canada Arts Presentation Fund Program, Support for Workers in Live Arts and Music Sector Fund.
