Nominated for 2023 Grammy Awards and Classical Music Awards, countertenor Reginald Mobley returns to Vancouver to share his incomparable artistry at Christ Church Cathedral on February 3, just in time for Black History Month.

In the program called Raise, raise the voice, he joins the Pacific Baroque Orchestra, directed by Alexander Weimann, in this Early Music Vancouver presentation.

The live concert features Henry Purcell’s O Solitude and Duke Ellington’s In My Solitude bookending “Raise, raise the voice”, one of Henry Purcell’s most attractive smaller-scale works. “Baroque music and jazz are spiritual siblings,” says Mobley in an Intimate Conversation interview with Bill Richardson and Alexander Weimann that will be available on EMV’s website after January 17.

Mobley is known for his strong devotion to social and political activism, particularly with the massive inequality regarding race, gender, and sexuality within the classical music industry. Here, the program’s title reminds us of the importance of raising all the artistic voices of our rich and diverse world.
