SFU Woodward's Cultural Programs and Dancing on the Edge are partnering to showcase the world premiere of Ecdysis | Soft Palate at the SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, on July 12 and 13 at 7 pm.

Ecdysis | Soft Palate is a double bill spotlighting the interdisciplinary collaboration of Vancouver-based choreographer Emmalena Fredriksson, costume designer Alaia Hamer, and lighting designer Kyla Gardiner. The two pieces originated during the pandemic and explore expressions of other worlds, consciousness, and new perceptions of the human body.

A sci-fi solo performed by Fredriksson, Ecdysis looks to the future and utilizes technology developed by UBC’s Dr. Bob Pritchard and the Tracking and Smart Textiles Environment (TaSTE) project.

“By working with the ways in which movement, material, and technology change the shape and perception of the human body, this performance looks to the future and draws on techniques from the past to ground the human in a moment of possibility,” says Fredriksson.
