SFU Woodward's salutes its enduring partnership with Vancouver International Film Festival

In a new Artscape video-podcast episode, director of programming Curtis Woloschuk reflects on the fest this year, and where it’s headed in the future

VIFF and SFUW have hosted programming in the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts cinema since 2013.

SFU Woodward's Cultural Programs (SFUW) is celebrating its 10th anniversary of partnering with leading-edge artists in dance, theatre, cinema, music and digital arts; provoking new practices and approaches reflecting the ever changing landscape of contemporary arts.

Since its inception in 2010 and the opening of the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts building, SFUW has continued to commission, produce, and present over 200 works per year.

In each new endeavour, SFUW is guided by the mandate to Create. Engage. Inspire.

Here is the first in a series of profiles celebrating SFUW’s partnerships with the artistic community since 2010.

When SFUW and Vancouver International Film Festival partnered up in 2013, it marked the occasion with an opening weekend screening of Blue Is the Warmest Colour. The SFU cinema not only surpassed the fest’s technical demands, it also immediately distinguished itself as a forum for discourse.

Dozens of equally memorable screenings have followed in the ensuing years. Just as importantly, SFU Woodward’s has hosted countless lively Q&As, taking exhilaratingly deep dives into subjects from resource extraction to particle physics to Truth and Reconciliation.

“Through our partnership at SFU Woodward’s, we’ve also witnessed how an institution can establish itself as a good neighbour and strive to serve an array of communities. This has served as inspiration as we chart our post-pandemic course.” - Curtis Woloschuck, VIFF Director of Programming.”
