High tech meets cool art at Shattered at The Beaumont: A Wicked Walkthrough Exhibit

The Halloween-themed interactive experience is touch-free and freaky

Shattered at the Beaumont is Halloween-themed.

Shattered at The Beaumont: A Wicked Walkthrough Exhibit opens October 8 and runs Wednesday to Sunday nights until October 31.

SOMETHING WICKED this way comes.

Old-school 3-D glasses, deranged (and in one case, half-blotto) scientists, evil dolls, and a series of cryptic clues await visitors over 10,000 labyrinthine square feet at the Beaumont Gallery.

A co-production of The Beaumont, Go2 ProductionsInnovation Lighting, and several Vancouver-based artists, Shattered at The Beaumont: A Wicked Walkthrough Exhibit opens October 8 and runs Wednesday to Sunday nights until October 31.

Amid the highlights that Stir caught last night at the freaky Halloween funhouse: pickled teddy bears, wonky stairways, and a kitschy 3D theatre that hits somewhere between SCTV’s Monster Chiller Horror Theatre and the ‘70s The Hilarious House of Frightenstein. A live team of mad scientists in lab coats, face shields, and googly-eye goggles await along the way.

The high-tech projections include a three-dimensional skeleton getting jolted in an electric chair, and at least one hallway with a dizzying array of lazer lights.

And did we mention the kickass courtyard bar, complete with boneyards, astroturf, and a not-so-jolly holiday installation?

Part escape room, the exhibit invites you to break a code to exit the house of horrors. Keep an eye out for signs and don’t feel claustrophobic—we had lots of help.

To keep people safe and healthy, full COVID-19 protocols are in place, including mandatory masks, hand-sanitizing stations, and a defined traffic flow. Our bubble didn’t run into any other groups while in the space, except for the spaced-out courtyard. Staggered entry times are in place for up to six people in the same bubble to ensure physical distancing. Expect strobe lights, sudden loud noises, staircases, and freaky thrills. The show is geared to people aged eight and up.

Tickets ($20 for adults, $15 for youth) are at Eventbrite.
