Théâtre la Seizième has just unveiled a full live season with works both historical and experimental.

The season opens with the interactive Nombre, November 2 to 6 at Studio 16.

Adapted from the original production by Alpha Charlie Kilo (Quebec), Nombre kicks off with audience members receiving simple, seemingly innocuous instructions. But an ingenious system of numbers soon plunges them into the heart of a performance in which they and their companions are both the inspiration and the main protagonists.

Next up is the solo show Zéro, running from February 9 to 12, 2022 at the Scotiabank Dance Centre. It features writer-director-performer Mani Soleymanlou trying to trace back to his own beginnings, in a story spanning three generations, from father to son, from Iran to Canada, and from exile to adopted country. The production is by Orange Noyée, in collaboration with Le Théâtre français du CNA.

Running April 21 to 23 at the York Theatre, La Détresse et l'Enchantement brings to life the autobiography of beloved Manitoba author Gabrielle Roy. The renowned actor Marie-Thérèse Fortin works with writer-director Olivier Kemeid to create a theatrical montage of Roy’s memoirs. The production comes courtesy of Trois Tristes Tigres, created with le Théâtre du Trident & le Théâtre du Nouveau Monde.

From May 24 to June 4, you can enter the quirky, caustic, and semi-surreal world S’effondrent les vidéoclubs in its Vancouver debut at Studio 16. Set within a soon-to-disappear video club in the village of St-François-Xavier de Brompton, it follows four marginal and whimsical characters. Nearby, Lake Tomcod, swimming in pollution, is also dying. Writer André Gélineau hits an offbeat blend of comedy and tragedy.

And finally, in its program of theatre for young audiences. Théâtre la Seizième presents Le merveilleux voyage d'inès de l'Ouest, with a debut at Studio 16 on March 23 and a BC tour to elementary and middle schools throughout the spring. In it, the titular troublemaker Inès learns a lesson in the play, when a magical imp turns her into a mouse and she’s carried away by a goose. Elsewhere on a tour of secondary schools, look for La question du devoir, tackling justice and freedom of expression.
