Turning Point Ensemble presents Inhale/Exhale—an extraordinary program and unconventional evening that will transcend the classical concert experience, on February 27 at 7:30 pm at Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

The ensemble will explore the profundity of the human body and the miracle of birth through music and sound, with compositions by Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry and major new works from Taylor Brook and Nova Pon.

The pieces presented as part of Inhale/Exhale will bring together the medical and artistic worlds and those of children and adults. Vancouver premieres of compositions from Parry’s debut album as a classical composer utilize basic body rhythms of the performers including heard beats and breathing.

Taylor Brook’s Viola Concerto—entitled Provenances and written for soloist Marina Thibeault and Turning Point Ensemble—explores the shared traumatic experiences of composer and soloist as recent parents.

Finally, Nova Pon’s Symphonies of Mother and Child is a personal response to the various stages and emotions associated with the parenting of her first-born child.
