Vancouver Chamber Choir celebrates 50th anniversary 2020-21 digital concert season on VANCC DIGITAL
The virtual concert platform features new full-length performances recorded at stunning local venues, free pre-concert talks, educational videos, and more
The Vancouver Chamber Choir is marking its 50th anniversary this season. To celebrate, the flagship Canadian choral organization is presenting its golden 2020-21 digital concert season exclusively on VANCC DIGITAL.
There is something for every listener. The user-friendly video-on-demand concert platform features a collection of brand-new full-length performances recorded with COVID-19 health measures in place. The choir appears in some of Vancouver's most beautiful and best acoustic spaces such as the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, Orpheum Theatre, Pacific Spirit United Church, and Holy Rosary Cathedral. The music spans history, genre, and style.
Light and Dark, for instance, is a concert featuring the two participants of VCC’s 41st annual Conductors’ Symposium, Cassie Luftspring and Andrew Bortz. The works on the program are philosophical or, perhaps even better, humanistic in that they address immense human questions.
Missa is a concert built around the about structure of a Mass, with rich sounds and varied textures created by four unique composers.
There are many more, with new content being uploaded regularly.
Audiences are welcome to purchase each full-length 2020-21 season concert for $15 (plus GST) for 30 days of unlimited viewing on VANCC DIGITAL.
To accompany these memorable performances is a range of complementary content, including pre-concert talks with Vancouver Chamber Choir artistic director, Kari Turunen.
There are also free educational videos, a Canadian choral music series, and a collection of never-seen-before footage from the choir's archives.
In keeping with Vancouver Chamber Choir’s mission to bring choral performances of the highest quality to as many people as possible, its innovative use of digital technology allows the organization to share music with people at home, anywhere. In enhancing the public’s appreciation of choral music, the choir is passionate about contributing to the long-term development of the choral art in Canada and around the world.
“Through challenging times, music’s greatest power is in the way it provides a sense of community,” Turunen says. “In the company of music, we are not alone.”
