Vancouver International Jazz Festival announces array of free livestreamed concerts and workshops
Daily performances from local stages join shows from Amsterdam and Paris
THE TD VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL Jazz Festival announced this morning it would offer 52 free livestreamed concerts in addition to its recently announced ticketed concerts.
The roster includes Dawn Pemberton, Alvaro Rojas, Cat Toren’s HUMAN KIND, DJ Kookum and Sierra Baker, Jillian Lebeck, Lydia Hol, Mary Ancheta, The Krystle Dos Santos Band, Eli Davidovici, Peggy Lee Cole Schmidt Trio featuring Dan Gaucher, Anita Eccleston, Amanda Sum, Jasmine Jazz featuring the Jodi Proznick Trio, and many more.
During the fest that runs June 25 to July 4, the free program announced today by organizers at the Coastal Jazz & Blues Society features daily livestreams from noon to 4:30 pm from three separate Vancouver locations. Ocean Art Works on Granville Island will host two daily performances to be streamed at noon and 1:30 pm; Performance Works on Granville Island sees a performance each day at 2:30 pm; and the Ironworks in Railtown has a show daily at 4:30 pm.
In addition, the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival has partnered with friends in Europe to present two special multi-artist livestream concerts. On June 26 at 5:30 pm, Trio Vatcher, Stadhouders, Petrucelli, Michael Moore’s Dice Cup, and OMAWI perform live from Amsterdam’s famous BIMHuis. July 3 at the same time, Roberto Negro, Duo Les Métanuits, and Papier Ciseau make music live from Paris.
All streamed performances will be available to view on Coastal Jazz & Blues Society’s YouTube channel from broadcast date to 11:59 pm on July 6.
Meanwhile, the fest also unveiled a series of six interactive workshops to be streamed from Tom Lee Music Hall on each scheduled day at 3:30 pm. Pianist Roisin Adams leads the one June 27; guitarist/pianist Itamar Erez is on deck for June 28; electronic musician and pianist Quincy Mayes lends his skills June 29; followed by guitarist Gavin Youngash June 30, guitarist Ayla Tesler-Mabe July 1, and pianist Sharon Minemoto July 2.
And the festival will continue with its annual Colloquium in partnership with the Western Front, UBC, and the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation. Taking place online June 26, it features talks by Kevin McNeilly, Fay Victor, and Darius Jones.
