VANCOUVER YOUTH CHOIR pushes the bounds of choral music with a cutting-edge program called Brave New World this Saturday night.
Among the composers who have contributed premiers and other pieces to the evening: Laura Hawley, Shireen Abu Khader, Corey Payette, Tracy Wong, My Brightest Diamond, Hey Rosetta, and more.
Although many people don’t realize it, the ensemble is one of the most highly regarded youth choirs on the continent. Founded in 2013 by artistic director (and one-time Salteens member) Carrie Tennant, the choir has a strong commitment to performing music from underrepresented communities, and take a nontraditional approach to venues and staging.
The group has more than 320 singers across seven ensembles, drawing from across the Lower Mainland.
