Music supervisors from Wandavision and Better Call Saul on deck for next VIFF Amp Music in Film Summit
Application deadline extended to August 7 for annual program aimed at emerging composers and other artists, with emphasis on marginalized communities
SHANNON MURPHY, music supervisor from Wandavision, Loki, and Ms. Marvel, and Yvette Metoyer, music supervisor for shows like Better Call Saul, El Camino, and The Boys, are just two of the big names headed to this year’s VIFF Amp Music in Film Summit, October 6 to 8.
The six-year-old program is part of the 41st annual Vancouver International Film Festival, September 29 to October 9.
Application deadlines have been extended to August 7 for the summit dedicated to exploring all aspects of music in visual media. Think composition and song placement for film, television, advertising and video games.
Other guests giving masterclasses at the conference will include Grammy-winning composer Miriam Cutler (Women Warriors: The Voices of Change; RBG; Dark Money; One Lucky Elephant); Leo-winning composers Brian and Caleb Chan (Angry Birds: Summer Madness!; Pinecone and Pony; Team Zenko Go; Panhandle); music supervisor Christine Roe Greene (For All Mankind; Shrill; Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always; Somebody Somewhere; Snowfall; Women of The Movement); and composer Amritha Vaz (Home, Mira: Royal Detective, Cam Girls, Bhwani Junction, Pomegranates & Myrrh).
The program is designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to excel in a career in film and television. A big aim is to provide access to the industry for emerging music professionals from marginalized communities.
The cohort of 100 songwriters, composers, music supervisors, managers, and filmmakers will be selected by a committee of industry members. The members of the cohort will have free entry to the summit’s curated masterclasses, case studies, panel discussions, musical showcases, and networking opportunities. New participants will also receive a $150 professional-development stipend.
“Vancouver is an international hotbed for visual media - and a global gateway for all related creative communities. And yet, the enormous impact of the city and province’s music community on the world stage is often underappreciated or overlooked,” Tony Scudellari, VIFF Amp co-curator and senior VP of television music at Sony Pictures Entertainment, said in the programming announcement. “Among our goals is to shine a spotlight on some of the province’s extraordinary music-related talent and develop long term business opportunities and creative collaborations with international tastemakers in the music for visual media space.”
Applications and more info is here.
The complete VIFF Amp 2022 speaker line-up and schedule will be announced on September 7.
