On February 3, 4, and 5, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra welcomes celebrated Salzburg-born cellist Julia Hagen, who will demonstrate lyricism and beauty of Joseph Haydn’s first cello concerto—Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major. The fast-rising young cellist will play a cello by Francesco Ruggieri (Cremona, 1684).

Guest conductor Joshua Weilerstein, heralded as “one of the most promising podium presences of his generation” by the LA Times, will helm the concert, leading a string-focused program of clarity and charm. The roster includes Edward Elgar’s shimmering Enigma Variations, one of classical music’s most beloved works.
