With compositions ranging from those by Mozart to John Williams, the family-friendly event takes place at Deer Lake Park

BURNABY’S DEER LAKE Park will come alive with music when the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra performs a free concert there on July 13.
Symphony in the Park 2024 features a lively program with selections from Georges Bizet’s Carmen: Suite No. 2, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4, John Williams’s Star Wars: Suite for Orchestra and Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone: Suite For Orchestra, and Aaron Copland’s Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes.
Also on the program are Antonín Dvořák’s Carnival Overture Op. 92, Jean Sibelius’s Finlandia, Op. 26, Leonard Bernstein’s Candide: Overture, Bedřich Smetana’s The Bartered Bride: Dance Of The Comedians, and Elmer Bernstein’s The Magnificent Seven: Symphonic Suite.
Symphony in the Park has been going for more than 30 years. Audiences are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair to sit on and to arrive early for family activities and food trucks. The show lasts approximately two hours. Parking in the vicinity is limited.
Gail Johnson is a Vancouver-based journalist who has earned local and national nominations and awards for her work. She is a certified Gladue Report writer via Indigenous Perspectives Society in partnership with Royal Roads University and is a member of a judging panel for top Vancouver restaurants.
