Figure 1 Publishing is an independent B.C.-based book publisher that works with storytellers, artists, curators, designers, chefs, and other creatives to make books of the highest quality, in the areas of art and photography, architecture and design, Indigenous art and culture, and food and drink.

Based in Vancouver, Figure 1 Publishing is located in the traditional, unceded territory of the xwməθkwəýəm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples, with some team members working from the unceded territories of other nations.

In operation for over a decade, Figure 1 Publishing publishes books with local art institutions like the Vancouver Art Gallery, Haida Gwaii Museum, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, the Audain Museum, and more.

Figure 1 Publishing has deep and diverse experience in making all kinds of books, from critically acclaimed limited-edition art monographs to award-winning international bestsellers. While our backgrounds and interests vary, we share a few things in common: we believe in the enduring power of printed words and images; we love to make books of the highest quality—books that matter; and we are devoted to working with authors and publishing partners to produce books they are enormously proud of.

We help our authors with every aspect of conceiving, writing, producing, and selling their books. We’re proud to have worked with scores of authors, including Daina Augaitis, Satwinder Kaur Bains, Dempsey Bob, Ned Bell, Emily Carr, Ujjal Dosanjh, Arthur Erickson, Gathie Falk, Kim Kushner, Susan A. Point, Kiriko Watanabe, and Chief Bill Williams, among many others.

Our mission is simple: we work closely with authors and partner organizations we believe in to produce remarkable books and get those books into stores across North America and the world. Ours is a publishing program where our authors’ goals drive everything we do and they are involved every step of the way. Whether someone is an architect or artist, curator or community leader, business expert or executive chef, we combine their vision and our expertise to create an effective publishing strategy and a handsome, high-quality book.
