Ballet BC unveils a full live season with nine new works on the Queen Elizabeth Theatre stage
Three separate programs include creations by Company 605, Out Innerspace, Crystal Pite, Lesley Telford, and artistic director Medhi Walerski
THREE WORLD PREMIERES by Canadian choreographers kick off Ballet BC’s just-unveiled live 2021-22 season, back at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
From November 4 to November 6, the opening program Unfold + Give features Stadium, by Toronto-born up-and-comer Ethan Colangelo; After We Glow by Vancouver’s celebrated Company 605; and Lean-to by Vancouver-based Nederlands Dans Theater alumna Lesley Telford.
The same program will also showcase Medhi Walerski’s flowing GARDEN, which Ballet BC fans watched over digital platforms as part of REACHING U last season, when the company was forced online by the pandemic. The show will mark Walerski’s first live performance with the company since taking on the role of artistic director just as COVID-19 was hitting the planet.
In 2022, Ballet BC is planning two more live programs to round out the season. Reveal + Tell, hitting the QE stage March 3 to 5, features internationally acclaimed choreographers Marco Goecke and Crystal Pite, as well as a new work from Walerski.
What If, May 12 to May 14, highlights new artistic voices for the company: Vancouver’s Out Innerspace, German choreographer Felix Landerer, and Montreal’s Dorotea Saykaly, the first recipient of the Emily Molnar Emerging Choreographer Award.
All performances will take place at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre with current COVID-19 health and safety protocols in place. Tickets for Unfold + Give are now on sale; info is here. Subscriptions to the 2022 programs will be available early next year.
