Vancouver Bach Choir performs works by Mozart, Britten at the Orpheum this fall
Under the musical direction of Leslie Dala, VBC launches its 91st season with a return to live concerts
AS IT EMBARKS on its 91st season, the Vancouver Bach Choir is announcing live performances at the Orpheum Theatre.
It starts October 23 with Mozart’s Requiem in d minor, a favourite among music lovers and singers alike.
Local soloists Robyn Driedger-Klassen (soprano), mezzo-soprano Katie Fernandez, tenor Scott Rumble, and Neil Craighead (bass) will join the Vancouver Bach Choir under the baton of the organization’s music director, Leslie Dala.
“Mozart’s Requiem is a work of such power and transcendent beauty,” Dala said in a release. “Given all of the events of the past 18 months across the globe and here at home, we felt that this was the ideal piece to launch this season. We look forward to making music together in person and to sharing this incredible masterpiece which we hope will give consolation and renewed hope to our listeners.”
On November 30, the VBC will present its premiere of Benjamin Britten’s festive cantata St. Nicolas. Aimed at connecting with young people, the piece is scored for multiple choirs, piano duet, organ, strings, percussion, and tenor soloist. Tenor Asitha Tennekoon joins the multi-generational choir for the performance.
