Diwali Fest shines online, to November 21
Several events are happening virtually to mark Diwali 2020 in Greater Vancouver
Diwali Fest happens online on various dates until November 21.
DIWALI CELEBRATION SOCIETY is inviting people to celebrate the Festival of Lights online.
Now in its 17th year, the locally produced festival of South Asian arts and culture will unfold via a series of virtual happenings.
November 4 is Diwali Storytime for kids at 11:30 in collaboration with Coquitlam Public Library.
One of two signature events, Diwali Downtown Vancouver takes place on November 7 starting at 2 pm. It will feature South Asian musical and dance performances by local artists to be enjoyed from the comfort of home. (Diwali Downtown Surrey took place on November 1.)
Diwali art kits for families are available for pick up in Vancouver and Coquitlam for the November 8 Art Workshop: Diya Painting. The kits include clay lamps to paint, as well as rangoli- and elephant-themed bookmarks to colour and a Happy Diwali greeting card to decorate.
And on November 21, it’s a virtual Chai House, with performances by artists of multiple genres.

“Light Your Spirit” is Diwali Celebration Society’s slogan. Dedicated to multiculturalism and inclusiveness, the organization works to unite people of all backgrounds in a celebration of “the universal light that exists in everyone”.
