Offbeat artistry of Graham Clark brings the laughs back to Laugh Track Comedy Club, March 19
Live standup is back, with East Van’s unofficial laugh ambassador and avid beard painter
Laugh Track Comedy Club presents Graham Clark on March 19 at 8 pm
LAID-BACK EAST VAN “hero of hilarity” has built a strong force of fans for his hilariously offbeat brand of comedy in this city over the past few decades.
Of course, he’s moved on to bigger realms than the East Van indie cult-comedy nights than he started out at. Besides cohosting the Maximum Fun’s wildly popular Stop Podcasting Yourself, he’s a regular on CBC’s The Debaters and has appeared at Just for Laughs, Halifax Comedy Festival, and even filmed his own comedy special for CTV.
Still, we like to think of him as our own. And that makes him the perfect comedian to mark the return of live standup at downtown’s Laugh Track Comedy Club this week—and a broader return for an art form that took an especially hard hit during the pandemic. (We lost a few venues and comedy nights in the process: in December, Clark pulled a 24-hour comedy marathon to raise money for an evicition fund for the Little Mountain Gallery venue.)
We’re pretty sure Clark will have some warped insights into all that; whose low-energy-dude persona belies master craftmanship and a slow build to really big and unexpected laughs. And here’s guessing he’s had some time to add to his spendiferous beard: check out his beardpaintings.com, where he sells paintings made using his formidable facial hair as a paintbrush and donates the proceeds to charity.
