Musica intima brings In Winter’s House to Kay Meek Arts Centre, December 14
The Juno-nominated vocal ensemble performs mixed program celebrating winter solstice
Kay Meek Arts Centre presents In Winter’s House on December 14 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the McEwan Theatre
MUSICA INTIMA, A Juno-nominated collaborative, conductorless Vancouver vocal ensemble, will celebrate winter solstice through song at its upcoming Kay Meek special presentation.
Anchoring the concert is Indian-American composer Reena Esmail’s “A Winter Breviary” as the choir marks the journey toward the longest night of the year and the ensuing return of the light.
Other works include the titular piece by Joanna Marsh and Io, Io! by the late local composer Jocelyn Morlock, among others. Then there are arrangements of familiar songs by Joanna Forbes, Canadian folk trio The O’Pears, Trombone Shorty, and ensemble members themselves.
Founded in 1992, musica intima has won a Western Canadian Music Award and released 10 commercial albums. NAGAMO is the name of their most recent collaboration with Cree composer Andrew Balfour, which seeks to forge a new path toward the decolonization of the choral arts.
