CLASSICAL-MUSIC PERFORMANCE, comedy, clown, bouffon, and physical theatre: Mozart and Her Brother tells the story of musical genius Maria Anna Mozart (who was known as Nannerl) and her precocious little brother Wolfgang Amadeus during their childhoods touring Europe. Although she was a brilliant musician, Nannerl was eventually left behind by her family and by history books; although it’s known she wrote music, no known copies of her work have survived.

Developed and produced by the Genuisettes Collective, the production is created by Mark Weatherley and Masae Day and directed by Garrett Quirk. Performers Masae Day and Jenny Andersen each play multiple characters and multiple musical instruments in whimsical arrangements of some of the greatest music ever written.

As a young student of classical violin, Day rarely saw herself reflected in the makers of music she studied and loved. She felt drawn to make the leap from performer to creator partly to help correct that imbalance.

“I love watching the surprise and delight on people's faces when they learn that Mozart had a brilliant sister,” Day says in a release, “but I also feel sad, because Nannerl was never allowed to blossom and be recognized as an artist the way her brother was. Exploring Nannerl's joy and passion for music has been cathartic, and we look forward to sharing the Mozart sibling’s irrepressible creativity with our audiences.”
