Free summer pop-up concerts hit Mount Pleasant Park, care of Music on Main, August 9 to 31

MUSIC ON MAIN has announced a full program of free outdoor concerts for all ages, launching in Mount Pleasant Park starting Monday.
The lineup of virtuoso musicians and ensembles spans everything from serene string quartets to avant-garde percussion and Johann Sebastian Bach.
Amid the talent on offer: santour player Saina Khaledi with oud master Ali Sajjadi; piano star Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa; and the exciting combo of flutist Mark Takeshi McGregor with guitarist Adrian Verdejo.
All concerts begin at 6:30 pm at the greenspace at West 16th and Ontario, with a request that audience members stay six feet apart from each other’s bubbles.

August 9: Saxophilia Saxophone Quartet (Julia Nolan, soprano saxophone; Kris Covlin, alto saxophone; David Branter, tenor saxophone, Colin MacDonald, baritone saxophone)
August 10: Microcosmos String Quartet (Marc Destrubé, violin; Andrea Siradze, violin; Tawnya Popoff, viola; Rebecca Wenham, cello)
August 11: Jennie Press, violin; Emilie Grimes, viola; Olivia Blander, cello, playing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations (abridged; Dmitry Sitkovetsky arrangement)
August 12: Saina Khaledi, santour and Ali Sajjadi, oud
