Project InTandem explores the strength of women through dance, at the Chutzpah Festival November 6 and 7
A double bill of physically charged works explore repetition and neuroplasticity
The Chutzpah Festival presents Project inTandem’s moving through, it all amounts to something and Deep END on November 6 and 7 at 7 pm at the Norman and Annette Rothstein Theatre and online.
CHECK OUT THE video below to see a female-powered company that’s shaking up Calgary’s contemporary-dance scene.
Project InTandem is at the Chutzpah Festival with a dynamic double bill of BC premieres: Sylvie Moquin’s moving through, it all amounts to something, and Meghann Michalsky’s Deep END.
The pair cofounded the collective in 2017 and has been collaborating ever since.
As seen in the trailer below, Michalsky’s work is an intense, and physically super-charged look at how movement accumulates and evolves through rounds and repetitions. In it, she pushes her dancers to see what they can endure, and gets close to honesty, vulnerability, and surrender in the process.
Moquin’s piece was inspired by the concept of neuroplasticity and the rewiring of patterning—and, created before the pandemic, it features Plexiglas wall-like structures that the choreographer never could have predicted would take on such symbolic meaning in a pandemic.
The throughline in all their work? Thoughtful performance that celebrates the strength of women—their struggle and their empowerment. At the same time, the company works to provide more opportunities for emerging female dancers.
If nothing else you'll see an edgy, contemporary cultural side to Calgary that defies any and all Stampede-and-cowboy-hat stereotypes. You can find more info and tickets here.
