Monsoon Festival of Performing Arts presents the free Punjabi Market Live from 2 to 6 pm on August 28 at 49th Avenue and Main Street

DIG INTO SOUTH ASIAN sweets and curries while bhangra dancers, DJs, Punjabi poets, and other artists throw an outdoor party at the corner of Main Street and 49th Avenue in the heart of the Punjabi Market this Sunday afternoon.

The free Monsoon Arts Festival celebration features colourful dance performances from acts including the bhangra- and gidha-driven Shan-E-Punjab Arts Club, Coastal Wolf Pack—Tstasu Stalqyu, Mortal Coil, Bollywood star Karima Essa, and divine Punjabi-Canadian drag artist Jolene Sloan.

On the music front, catch pop singer and poet Robyn Sandhu, folk and rock sensation Jugpreet Bajwa, Sufi stars Varinder Vicky and Navreet Kaur, and stellar singer Krystal Kiran, who performs in several languages. DJ Element will also be spinning tunes.

On the other end of the spectrum, bask in the beauty of Punjabi poetry and prose with the likes of performers Guntaj Deep Singh, Balkaran, and Mohan Gill taking the mike.

Food trucks will help fuel your day, with options including North Indian specialists Hi Class Food Truck (who will also be serving free jalebis, a beloved Indian sweet) and Indo-Chinese fusionists Namaste Food Lovers.

There are activities for families and more. Bring sunscreen, your festive spirit, and an empty stomach.
