Conversation on the Art of P.Mansaram livestreams via Surrey Art Gallery, February 5
The free talk about the prolific Rajasthani-born Ontario-based artist’s work is moderated by Indian Summer Festival’s Sirish Rao
Surrey Art Gallery and Indian Summer Festival present Conversation on the Art of P.Mansaram on February 5 from 2 to 3 pm via YouTube.
BORN IN MOUNT Abu, Rajasthan, Panchal Mansaram built his life and career in Burlington, Ontario, a diligent and prolific artist who created work literally every single day.
To accompany Surrey Art Gallery’s current exhibition P.Mansaram: The Medium is the Medium is the Medium (running to March 20 with free admission), the gallery is hosting a panel discussion to take a deeper dive.
Moderated by Indian Summer Arts Society co-founder Sirish Rao, Conversation on the Art of P.Mansaram features as guests the exhibitions co-curators, Indu Vashist and Toleen Touq, and Deepali Dewan, ROM’s Dan Mishra Curator of South Asian Art & Culture.
Vashist, whom Stir previously interviewed for a feature article about the exhibition, is executive director of the South Asian Visual Arts Centre at the Art Museum at the University of Toronto. Vashist said of the late artist (who died in late 2020 at age 86) whose vast portfolio includes drawings, paintings, collage, texts, sculptures, Xerox pieces, silkscreen prints, and films: “He was just the most creative person I’ve ever met. He was always curious about everything.”
Touq is a curator, cultural producer, writer, and mentor who relocated to Toronto from Amman, Jordan.
