KAY MEEK ARTS Centre has announced some of its fall programming with COVID-friendly mini performances and events running throughout the month of October.

Pianist and singer Michael Kaeshammer leads the West Vancouver performing arts venue’s autumn lineup, with performances on October 14 and 15.

On October 19, Hearts Beat Loud opens the Kay Meek’s fall film series. Set in Red Hook, Brooklyn, the story follows the unlikely songwriting collaboration of a father and daughter before she leaves for college.

West Vancouver Art Museum acting director/curator Hilary Letwin is the guest at the speaker series’ October 21 talk called West Vancouver and Mid-Century Modern Architecture (in partnership with WVAM). She’ll share insights into the way relationships between artists, architects, and residents brought design innovations to the region’s stunning mountain and ocean surroundings.

The Koerner Piano Trio performs an evening of Mozart, Turina, and Smetana on October 22, presenting the piano trio as a genre of chamber music.

And on October 27, beloved Vancouver musician Veda Hille will cross the bridge from East Van for an intimate hour-long set of songs and stories from her career, which spans three decades.

All of the events take place in the Grosvenor Theatre with full COVID-19 health and safety protocols in place.

Following the provincial government’s May 6 announcement that attendance caps of 50 people will remain in effect for the foreseeable future, Kay Meek Arts Centre made the tough call to postpone its 2020/21 season to next year. However, it’s navigating these changing times by announcing micro events on a month-by-month basis or as they are confirmed—and by celebrating local talent.

Shows from the 2019/20 season that had to be postponed because of the pandemic and that are to run in 2021/22 include Rolston String Quartet with Ian Parker, piano; Dervish; Pageant: The Musical; Brubeck Brothers Quartet; Grant Lawrence & Friends; VAM Symphony Orchestra; and Canadian Brass.

More info and tickets are at Kay Meek Arts Centre’s website. The venue will be announcing its November lineup soon.
