Laura Noonan’s Bordolle photo exhibition hits Art@Bentall, to March 31
There’s more to the East Van photographer’s ragdolls than meets the eye
THE RAGDOLLS THAT East Vancouver photographer Laura Noonan portrays in her new exhibition, Bordolle, aren’t old, forgotten toys. In the artists’ eyes, they symbolize innocence, constancy, and uniformity. More broadly, they help make up the show’s themes of female representation and empowerment.
A self-taught artist and curator from Cork, Ireland, who works mainly with lens-based fine art and acyrlics, Noonan is co-founder of the Vancouver photography collective Meet Me at the Lamp(p)ost with Tara Mary Paget. MMATLP celebrates the present moment through place-specific street photoraphy
Art@Bentall is a relatively new gallery space in Vancouver, having opened downtown in late 2020 by the Vancouver Visual Art Foundation. Located at 595 Bentall Street, it represents local and international artists.
The VVAF’s flagship event is Art Vancouver, an annual four-day art fair at Vancouver Convention Centre. The foundation prides itself on creating opportunities for visual artists and rewarding them with artist fees and honoraria in line with national standards.
Art@BentallGallery is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm PST.
More information is at Art@Bentall.
