SFU School for the Contemporary Arts presents A Practice of Yielding, a public symposium and film premiere, at the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema on March 21 at 7 pm.
Audiences will see the B.C. premiere of In the Garden of Forking Paths, a groundbreaking collaborative film shot entirely with a spherical camera and featuring 19 young cocreators from rural British Columbia. SFU professor Laura Marks will introduce the screening. Afterwards, there will be moderated dialogue with the film’s cocreators, then a conversation with SFU professors Simone Rapisarda and Dara Culhane.
This free event invites audiences to explore the potential of “yielding” creative authority in collaborative art-making while learning how to incorporate community voices in a meaningful way. The symposium also serves as the culminating event for A Poetic of Yielding, a dual-channel installation that showcased works by Simone Rapisarda.
More information about A Practice of Yielding is available through SFU.
