Vancouver artist Stephen Waddell takes viewers virtually into his studio at Audain Art Museum Tuesday Night Talk, February 15
Photographer discusses the work Termini in the online event
The Audain Art Museum presents Stephen Waddell as part of its Tuesday Night Talks on February 15 at 8 pm, live via Zoom
ACCLAIMED VANCOUVER PHOTO-BASED artist Stephen Waddell will appear at the Audain Art Museum’s next Tuesday Night Talk.
The online event allows participants to virtually visit both the museum and the artist’s studio or home during the evening.
Waddell will be discussing an archival pigment print on paper called Termini, a 2008 work that features a pair of homeless people and their cart, set in the foreground of a nondescript urban setting.
Initially working as a painter and filmmaker, Waddell has for decades reinvented street photography, and the concepts of realism, always with an empathetic eye toward social subjects.
His photographs have often been rooted in the history of Western art, his everyday city scenes and inhabitants echoing the work of French painters such as Édouard Manet and Paul Cézanne.
Waddell has exhibited everywhere from Galerie Tanit in Paris to the National Gallery of Canada. In 2019 he was awarded the Scotiabank Photography Prize. The artist is represented by the Monte Clark Gallery in Vancouver.
The Tuesday Night Talk will be hosted by Audain Museum director and chief curator Dr. Curtis Collins.
Zoom as participants are invited to submit advance questions for Waddell. You can register here.
