Vetta Chamber Music presents local quartet the Four Jays live from March 7 to 10. Performances will take place at West Point Grey United Church on March 7, Kay Meek Arts Centre on March 8, Pyatt Hall on March 9, and ArtSpring on Salt Spring Island on March 10.
Joan Blackman, Jane Hayes, and Julia Nolan have played together as a saxophone trio for many years, but the birth of the Four Jays came during Vetta Chamber Music’s online concert series in 2021, when jazz bassist and composer Jodi Proznick was added to the mix.
This versatile ensemble presents fresh takes on classical, contemporary, and jazz music, with an unlikely combination of saxophone, violin, bass, and piano that has led to several commissions and collaborations. For this concert, the Four Jays will present repertoire favourites, including impressionist, 20th-century, jazz, and tango works from Debussy, Piazzolla, and Proznick.
Tickets and more details are at Vetta Chamber Music.
