Vancouver New Music presents SlowPitchSound—a.k.a. Toronto-based turntable artist and composer Cheldon Paterson—at the Annex on May 10 at 8 pm, with an artist talk at 7:15 pm.

SlowPitchSound experiments with a wide range of disciplines, styles, and sounds in what he has dubbed “sci-fi turntablism”. Inspired by nature, outerspace, and dystopian sci-fi, he draws on turntablism, live sampling, field recordings, and live cinema to make and present music.

At the Annex, he’ll perform his piece Within Touch using a turntable, looper, drum machine, and video camera. During the performance, the audience will have a close-up view of SlowPitchSound’s storytelling process projected on screen.

With a career spanning over two decades, SlowPitchSound has collaborated across opera, jazz, classical, electronic music, theatre, and dance. He has performed in Canada, Australia, the U.S., the U.K., the Netherlands, France, Sweden, and Taiwan.

Tickets and more details are available through Vancouver New Music.
