VSO, CircusWest take families to the Big Top, May 9
In celebration of Mother’s Day, the two organizations team up for OriginO Kids Concert
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and CircusWest present OriginO Kids Concert on May 9 at 2 pm via TheConcertHall.ca.
A FANTASTICAL FOREST on the edge of the ocean is the setting for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and CircusWest’s co-presentation in celebration of Mother’s Day. A hummingbird, salmon, bear, eagle, and mountain lion have to join forces to save their home from a menacing forest fire.
Under the direction of Otto Tausk, Andrew Crust, and Vern Griffiths, VSO members provide a gorgeous musical backdrop that includes selections from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, a Bach suite for solo cello, a string quartet by Shostakovich, plus music by Arvo Pärt and the orchestra’s own Griffiths and Marcus Goddard.
Each portraying a different creature, the circus artists perform a dazzling and daring array of aerial acts on trapeze, rings, and straps, along with balancing acts, contortion, and other feats.
This is one trip to the circus mom won’t forget.
