Priestley will give a talk about the history and folklore of Black Hills, which is just north of Osoyoos. The winery itself is best known for its sustainable practices and premium blends, notably its Nota Bene Bordeaux-style red (which is now in its 20th vintage and sells out every year). Page will perform, and so will tribute group ABBA Arrival.

Also on the program is a guided wine tasting by Black Hills winemaker Ross Wise. With a Bachelor of Viticulture and an advanced diploma in wine science from the Eastern Institute of Technology in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, he is one of 10 Canadians to hold the Master of Wine distinction.

Access to the soirée is open to anyone who purchases a Valentine’s Day three-bottle tasting pack of Black Hills wines, with prices starting at $115.

Earls Restaurants across Canada is throwing in a three-course meal kit made by chef David Wong to go with the wines. (The meal has to be ordered online and can be picked up at guests’ nearest restaurant.)

Black Hills’ goal in hosting the event is to bring some joy and entertainment to people who are stuck at home because of COVID-19 while supporting the BCHF. A registered charity, the BC Hospitality Foundation raises funds to support people in the industry who are facing financial crisis due to a health condition. It also has a scholarship program.

Valentine’s wine packs are on sale until February 10 and orders can be placed online.

The event’s after party (free to anyone who joins the official event) features a chat with world-champion freestyle skier, John Eaves (who performed James Bond ski stunts; Cooking with Julia Chill, by comedian Gery Shubert; East Coast Celtic Stage featuring Newfoundland-born Okanagan singer Billy Wiseman; a session on food-and-wine pairings by estate manager Jesse Collins; and a screening of the best short-film submissions made to the Vinos, the Black Hills’ wine film festival.
