Brewery & the Beast runs September 12 in Victoria and on September 26 in Vancouver.

There’s more to Brewery & the Beast than local food and drink. First held in 2012, the community- and culinary-focused event promotes ethical, sustainable, and natural farming practices while raising awareness of the importance of seeking out sustainability when grocery shopping or dining out.

After a one-year pandemic pause, the all-inclusive grazing event is returning for 2021 with new features, notably reduced guest capacity, hitting Victoria on September 12 and Vancouver on September 26.

Returning Vancouver restaurants and suppliers lined up so far include Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar, Fable Diner, Juke Fried Chicken, Nightingale, PiDGiN Restaurant, Torafuku,Two Rivers Specialty Meats, La Mezcaleria, and Paella Guys. Newcomers include giovane bacaro, Miantiao, Honey Salt, Fanny Bay Oysters, Straight & Marrow Cibo Trattoria, Bread & Butter Cafe, Osteria Savio Volpe, and Saha Eatery.

In Victoria, participating outlets run the gamut from Aura Waterfront Restaurant + Patio and Oak Bay Beach Hotel to Wolf In The Fog and Wildflower Bakeshop and Cafe.

On the libations front, look for everything from Phillips Malting & Brewing to Muddlers Craft Cocktails to Discovery Coffee to Sparkmouth Non-Alcoholic Beverages.

More vendors will be added as the dates draw nearer.

Music is a key component of the meat-centric fest. The Electric Timber Company—a collective of artists and musicians coming together to solve both scientific and non scientific problems via music—will play both events, with special guest performers being featured in each city.

Organized by 17 Black Events, the fest is a perennial sell-out. This year, partial proceeds will go to Chefs’ Table Society of BC, which aims to inspire, nurture, and showcase B.C. chefs, producers, and others in the food industry.

Since launching in 2012, Brewery & the Beast has donated more than $130,000 to organizations that work to grow the Canadian culinary industry such as the BC Hospitality Foundation, Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship, Women Chefs & Restaurateurs, and the Island Chefs Collaborative.

Tickets for the Victoria event at Starlight Stadium are now available ($145.95) and those for Vancouver’s, at Concord Pacific Place, go on sale July 14 ($165.95).
