Gastown's Di Beppe Ristorante celebrates Festa della Polenta, to June 30
Once considered peasants’ food, polenta is at the heart of an annual tradition celebrated throughout Italy—and beyond
Di Beppe Ristorante presents Festa della Polenta to June 30.
Di Beppe’s Festa della Polenta third annual is now on, highlighting an Italian culinary staple that dates back to hundreds of years.
It’s said that in the 16th century, members of the Tuscan nobility offered polenta to hungry townspeople to help fight a famine sweeping through the region. The festival has since become a time-honoured tradition that’s celebrated throughout the country.
Among the choices on the three-course menu for indoor or patio dining ($49 per person plus tax and gratuity) are pork cheek and polenta fritters with paprika aioli and pickles; Tuscan black-pepper short ribs with polenta rustica; ling cod with heritage corn polenta; and castagnaccio (fried chestnut cake) with orange, honey, and Amaretto cream.
Dishes can be ordered à la carte; optional beverage pairings including aperitivo, digestivo, and wine are also available.
See Di Beppe for more information.
