Dutch Street Market runs September 2 to 4 at the 600-block Granville

WELKOM THE STROOPWAFELS and Sjoelbak: the Dutch Cultural Association of BC is launching the first annual Dutch Street Market on Labour Day weekend, from September 2 to 4 on the 600-block of Granville Street.

Food will play a big part of the day, with street-food vendors, five flavours of the chewy, waffle-like stroopwafels, and all the salty licorice you can handle.

DJs and live music will set the soundtrack each day, while visitors scope out the flower and tulip-bulb market, art prints, kitchenwares, and Amsterdam-worthy Bakfiets Dutch bikes.

And try your hand at mini-shuffleboard-like Sjoelbak—traditional Dutch game that will see a tournament during the festivities.

The event is part of a wider series of events presented with the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association and the Asian Canadian Special Events Association.

On September 4, go even more Dutch by catching the free screening of White Balls on Walls at 2:30 pm at the Orpheum Annex. The documentary profiles the sleek Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, where administrators try to change an institution built around white-male artists. Read our review here from its screening at VIFF Centre earlier this year.

The screening is part of the wider Self-Portraits of Formosa—Reminiscing the Dutch?, hosted at the Vancouver Art Gallery, šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ North Square with TaiwanFest.
