DanceHouse and SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs stream Speaking of Dance- Future Memory on November 26 at 11 am; info and registration here
DanceHouse is known for bridging the world of dance, and now it will use the magic of the internet to bring together creators of some of its best shows over the years.
On Thursday morning’s free, livestreamed version of Speaking of Dance, Australia’s Jacob Boehme of Insite Arts, Brazil’s Sonia Destri Lie of Companhia Urbana de Dança, France’s Hervé Koubi of Compagnie Hervé KOUBI, and Vancouver’s own Vanessa Goodman of Action at a Distance will talk about their creative practice and projects and their own perspectives on these uncertain times.
Boehme’s multimedia Blood on the Dance Floor made an impact in 2019 at SFU Woodward’s Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre; Companhia Urbana de Dança had audiences on their feet whooping at the hip-hop-fuelled fusion in 2016; Compagnie Hervé Koubi mixed the spiritual and streetdance in stunning ways in 2017; and Goodman artfully plied the ideas of Marshall McLuhan with Wells Hill the same year.
They’ll each share 10-minute video presentations about their inspirations and plans for the future.
The talk is Session One in a two-part series that will tap eight artists in total.
The hourlong panel allows you to send in questions to be answered in a live chat—a chance to interact with some of the most exciting dance artists across the globe.
