Talking Stick Festival: Summer Sojourn presents Dancing With Our Ancestors, starting June 15 at 7 pm PDT and available for online viewing throughout June.

AS PART OF Talking Stick Festival’s month-long Summer Sojourn, Christine Friday, Maura Garcia, and Rebecca Sadowski will perform Dancing With Our Ancestors. In these intimate dance pieces, the artists explore their connection to their forebears—and shed light on the insights and lessons they glean from them.

Friday, a prolific Indigenous storyteller, is deeply connected to her Anishinaabe people’s traditions and cultural wellness. With a professional dance career spanning nearly three decades, she has performed solo and commissioned work in addition to choreographing and working on youth creations and full-scale productions.

Garcia (non-enrolled Cherokee/Mattamuskeet) is a dancer, choreographer, and entertainer who has performed across the continent. With a desire to perpetuate ancestral knowledge, she collaborates within Indigenous communities to celebrate group narratives through dance and other genres.

Sadowski is an Edmonton-based Métis performer, choreographer, and dance instructor. Having recently joined the Good Women Dance Collective, she is a curator for the Nextfest Festival and teaches dance with dancED Movement Project and the City of Edmonton.
